Welcome!
My name is Heather L. Jovanelli, and I am an instructional and editing professional based in Oakland, California, with over seven years of experience in creating and managing e-learning content and communications material. My expertise spans course development, cloud-based integration, teaching, and copyediting, with a focus on delivering engaging, learner-centered experiences.
Currently, I serve as a Copy Editor and Resource Editor at the Global Brain Health Institute at UCSF, where I proofread, edit, and locate scientific articles related to dementia prevention and brain health. I apply my proficiency in APA and Chicago style to ensure clarity and quality, while also providing editorial feedback within the Canvas LMS.
At the Academy of Art University, I have designed writing courses, developed instructional materials for creative software such as Adobe Suite, Maya, and Logic Pro, and mentored students in English language development. I also teach English for Art Purposes. In this role, I focus on critical writing and communication skills in the context of art and design.
With a strong background in instructional design, project management, and content creation within creative and innovative environments, I bring a detail-oriented approach to every project, always prioritizing audience engagement. I earned a Master’s in English from Mills College and hold a Certificate in Technical Writing from California State University, East Bay. My proficiency spans multimedia tools and e-learning platforms such as Canvas and Brightspace, along with expertise in implementing various style guides.
